God Delights in Every Step of Our Growth

By Dr. Sherry Jones — I was just sitting down for my first mug of coffee and my cell phone rings;  it was one of the women I disciple. She was so excited about reading the story of David.

This was a milestone moment. Previously she was unable to read scripture because of how a caregiver used the bible to abuse her as a child. Now, she was even able to use the words God and the Holy Spirit. Previously, she was unable to speak those words due to the abuse.

She was so excited to read about David and his family relationships. It gave her a point of reference and someone in the bible she to whom she could now relate. A new adventure waits for this woman who has connected abuse with every kind religion. Now she is taking steps toward a relationship with God. Both Jesus and I are delighting in this growth.

Street Outreach Leads to Training Opportunity

By Dr. Sherry Jones — Rising Sun and Adams Ave is an insane driving experience on any day, but on a Saturday afternoon it is a very dangerous intersection. I was invited to participate in a gospel outreach right in the middle of it all. We stationed ourselves on the busy corner of the shopping mall and proclaimed the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.  Passing motorists, Wendy’s patrons, and Planet Fitness customers heard the Gospel and received tracts. In between near accidents, horns beeped and people hollered their approval at us, we preached the Good News.

As a result of that day, the church pastors asked me to lead a workshop on ministry to those who deal with mental illness and/or trauma. The focus was on the people they meet during evangelistic outreaches, especially those who may suffer from mental illness and/or trauma.  I was one of five speakers that day addressing spiritual warfare and prayer, why do outreach, knowing your community, and sharing the gospel effectively on social media. It was also a time for me to encourage several young pastor’s to begin forming mentoring relationships with young men.

These were two good days Fostering gospel-driven communities.

CityNet Ministries models and equips churches to be missional toward their neighbors from other countries, cultures and religions where it is difficult for the gospel to go.  When the world is on our doorstep, it is no longer necessary to travel great distances to “make disciples of all nations.”
